Cabana Boy #100...Keep on Rocking! (by Jenn)

This is where you come when you want some Mancake with your coffee...

I’m not going to feature Chris Rock over in the Cabana because I love him for his brains and character, not his brawn (or lack thereof to hear him tell it).

I’ve been a fan of Chris Rock’s comedy for years. Rough language doesn’t bother me and his takes on race relations are as spot-on as they are side-splittingly funny. This is a man that tells it like he lived it--and he lived it in my day, if not my neck of the woods. He's poignant and funny in interviews; of course who doesn't do a great job for Terry Gross (okay, there was that Gene Simmons incident!)?

Then there was his series, Everybody Hates Chris. That show was probably the last time my whole family was happy to gather around the ol’ TV screen and view a warm, wholesome family comedy. We still gather around, but it’s more likely that Rescue Me is on the screen. Excellent yes, wholesome decidedly not. Thanks for the memories Chris.

Now there is his much-anticipated (for me anyway—I’ve been hearing buzz on NPR for awhile) documentary, Good Hair. I’ll never forget the tutorial a neighbor had to give me on what products to use and how to do her daughters hair when I babysat for a weekend. I’m sure her mother was faster than me, but half-an-hour a day on hair for a four-year old sure seemed like a long time for a little girl to have to put up with having her hair tugged.

If I didn’t want to see Good Hair before I caught the tail end of his interview on Oprah last week, I sure would now. He tells a fascinating story with humor and he does it for his daughters. Who doesn’t think that rocks?

Love Chris Rock and am looking so forward to this movie. However, my friend is a movie critic and he told me that there is no intention to release "Good Hair" in San Diego. He hasn't gotten an advance copy for review nor can he find any dates of release. I'm hoping he's wrong...

And as an aside, my 4-year-old sat for 3 &1/2 hours on Saturday---the entire first half of her day---while she got her hair did. 3 &1/2 hours. She is a super star.

I'm always charmed by a man who can make me laugh, and he does make me laugh. When he talks about his family in his stand-up routines, I always feel like mine is a little more normal.

Great choice!

I think CR is hysterical. Rather than thinking of him as #100, because he obviously ranks higher than that on someone's radar, let's just call him a perfect 10 to the 10th power. Good choice.

I first came across him in 'Dogma' and had no idea who he was for ages but damn! Any man who can make a woman laugh has her halfway to the bedroom (cabana, benchtop, washing machine ;-)

Aaryn--We might have to take a field trip to L.A. to see it if that's true.

My husband and I got a rare night away from the kids and saw this on Friday, when it opened. It is soooo good. If it's playing near you, go see it! It might even be worth it to see it if you have to drive for a couple of hours.
